Caraquet

A few Acadian families settled in Caraquet in 1757 during the Deportation; the Blanchards, Légers and Poiriers. Fisheries and agriculture were the town's dominant economic activity for a long time, but today the tourism and cultural sectors are also important. In fact, with its Village historique acadien, its Gala de la chanson, as well as its Festival acadien and its famous August 15 tintamarre, Caraquet promotes itself as the "cultural capital of Acadie".
