Miramichi

During the Grand Dérangement, hundreds of Acadians fled to a territory that would later become the city of Miramichi in 1995. In the 19th century, the region again welcomed many Acadian families looking for work, especially in the region's sawmills. Today, Miramichi has a dynamic French community and at its heart is the Carrefour Beausoleil, a school and community centre that was named after a leader of the Acadian resistance during the Grand Dérangement, Joseph Broussard dit Beausoleil.
