Colonised in the early 19th century, the coastal village of Cap-Pelé is known for having over thirty herring smokehouses. The pioneers of the village, Marcel and Paul LeBlanc, both from Saint-Anselme (Dieppe), settled there to cultivate the region's fertile land, although today's main economic activity is the fishery. Furthermore, thanks to initiatives such as the Parc de l'Aboiteau, tourism plays an important role in the development of today's community.
