Malpec

After the Deportation, around 1763, a group of Acadian families such as the Arsenaults, Bernards, Gallants, Poiriers and Richards settled in Malpec. Many of these families were from the Restigouche region (close to Campbellton, N.B.) where they had taken refuge. However, in the early 19th century, these families were practically forced to leave the Malpec region, because the owner of the lands they were on charged them too much rent. They left to colonize the regions of Tignish and Egmont Bay.
