Birthplace of French post-secondary education in Nova Scotia, the village of Pointe-de-l'Église was colonized by the families of François Doucet and Pierre LeBlanc. They arrived in the region in 1772 from Massachusetts, the destination to which they had been deported. In 1890, the third Acadian National Convention was held there and the Collège Sainte-Anne was founded, the province's first establishment of French post-secondary education. Today, Pointe-de-l'Église has the tallest wooden church in North America.
