The Acadian population of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon was probably the most sorely tried by the Grand Dérangement. After arriving on this French territory in 1763, led by Jacques Vigneau, the Acadians underwent numerous deportations, ordered first by the French authorities (1767), then by the British (1778 and 1794). Not before 1816, when the islands definitively became a French possession, were they allowed to settle there permanently. Today, although they represent a minority, the Saint-Pierre et Miquelon Acadians are a dynamic group who formed an association in early 2000, the Association Saint-Pierre et Miquelon-Acadie.
