Barachois

The Boudreaus and Gautreaus were the first families to settle inside the present Barachois town limits at the end of the 1780s. These pioneer families came from the Village-des-LeBlanc (Dieppe) and Beaumont (close to the mouth of the Peticodiac River) and were looking for unoccupied parcels of land. Fisheries and agriculture were the village's main economic activities, but thanks to its proximity to Moncton, Barachois became an important vacation place. Their old parish church, one of the oldest Acadian churches, built in 1826, is used as both a museum and a performance hall.
