Considered today as the Acadian Peninsulas' service centre, Tracadie-Sheila was founded with the arrival of the Acadian pioneer families, Bastarache (Basque) and Saulnier. Founded in late 19th century, the Hôtel-Dieu was New Brunswick's first hospital to offer services in French. Recently, this coastal city has gained certain recognition thanks to two young local artists, Jean-François Breau and Wilfred Le Bouthillier.
