Saint-Louis-de-Kent

The pioneers of Saint-Louis-de-Kent were from Petcoudiac (Dieppe) and found certain similarities with the lands they had just left, salt marshes good for growing hay. At the end of the 18th century, Joseph Babineau and other pioneers started developing the fisheries and agricultural sectors in Saint-Louis-de-Kent, which became one of Acadie's most prosperous communities. It is the birthplace of numerous Acadian notables, such as Mgr. Marcel-François Richard, ardent Acadian patriot and creator of the tricolor étoilé, the national Acadian flag since 1884. These days, Saint-Louis-de-Kent remains a prosperous village, particularly proud of its Acadian heritage.
